CATHI FELSER WINS, SKIING STAR HIRSCHER IMPRESSES!
Wonderful summer weather, the gorgeous backdrop of southern Styria, full starting fields in all classes and again a spectacular show by the KTM X-BOW crowd: the international hillclimb race in Kitzeck once again thrilled the drivers and fans alike this year, with the fans turning up in record numbers along the 2,2 kilometres long hillclimb racing track on the „Demmerkogel“.
After training on Saturday the 12 drivers strong KTM X-BOW field started their races on early Sunday at 9:00 a.m.. And the training presented a strong battle already, with the time differences on the rather short track being mere seconds, and the top of the field even battling for tenth of seconds.
The eagerly awaited apperance by ÖSV-star Marcel Hirscher was the perfect addition, and what’s more the young man from Salzburg confirmed once again the theory that professional skiers have a real talent for racing! Hirscher improved from run to run and was among the fastest at the end of training. Despite the motto „don’t break anything!“ he presented an impressive performance during the three races on Sunday. With 1:15.272 the skiing ace remained just three seconds over the absolute fastest time achieved by a X-BOW – and this without ever having trained in an extreme sports car before! He achieved a great seventh place in the overall rankings and even a fifth place when excluding the two starters not eligible for points, Cathi Felser and Dominik Olbert.
„An absolutely great experience!“, so the day’s résumé of the probably biggest talent currently in the ÖSV-team. „Nothing broken, I had lots of fun and already was among the fastest “, Marcel Hirscher carried on. He clearly enjoyed the drive in the X-BOW, the overall service (which can be purchased by everyone, info under www.ktm-x-bow.com!) and the relaxed and easy atmosphere within the KTM-community: „Die KTM X-BOW HILLCLIMB TROPHY is a totally cool thing and is to be absolutely recommended to all motor sports enthusiasts!“
Undefeated, right at the top in Kitzeck was the former KTM works driver and racing instructor Catharina Felser. Even though the fast as well as pretty Munich driver struggled with the rong choice of tyres during the first race of the HILLCLIMB TROPHY on the Rechberg she quickly rehabilitated herself in Kitzeck with the absolutely fastest time out of two races, scarcely one second in front of second-placed Gerald Hierzer, who in turn could claim the best time of the day (1:12.007) for himself. Dominik Olbert came third, Christian Nöst fourth, Günter Zanker came in fifth place. Since Felser and Olbert, being instructor and organiser respectively, are not eligible for points Hierzer was awarded full points, giving him an impressive lead in the overall rankings. The next race in the KTM X-BOW HILLCLIMB TROPHY is in two weeks time, on 12th and 13th of June in Italy.
